SACE Stage 1: 10 Credits / 1 Semester / The Arts

Pre-Requisite: An achievement level of “C” or better for year 10 visual art / design/ media arts / year 10 literacies

SUBJECT OVERVIEW

Students research and analyse traditional and contemporary artworks as a point of influence throughout the course. Students explore and experiment with media and techniques, and resolve to produce practical work.

Using visual thinking and investigation students develop ideas and concepts, refine technical skills, and produce imaginative solutions. Students learn to communicate personal ideas, beliefs, values, thoughts, feelings, concepts and opinions, and provide observations of their lived or imagined experiences in visual form.

Students intending to progress to Stage 1 Art or Design are advised to also study Art for a semester at year 10.

Please note Students choose to Stage 1 Visual art or Visual Art Design for both semesters.

This Course leads to Stage 2 Visual art / Visual Art Design.

ASSESSMENT

Students are assessed against the SACE year 11 (stage 1) Visual Art performance standards.

Students demonstrate their learning through the following assessment tasks:

  • Visual study
  • Folio
  • Practical and practitioner’s statement

Additional Information

Students will require:

  • A3 folio
  • A3 plastic sleeve folder
  • Lead pencils, eraser, felt tip pens, scissors, glue, ruler
  • Large USB
  • Colour printing is recommended, students should be prepared to spend extra on their printing account
  • Any unusual additional material that students individually require
  • $10 excursion fee
