10 Special Interest Volleyball (Girls)

Pre-Requisite: Successful completion of the year 9 Volleyball course.

SUBJECT OVERVIEW

The Special Interest Volleyball program (SIV) is recognized across Australia and even Internationally as a unique program that is intense and physically challenging, with the aim of developing athlete’s individual and team skills to their full potential. Participation in both the beach and indoor disciplines could lead to selection in school, state and national teams. Entry is through successful completion of the Year 9 course. Personal growth is a core aim of the program with development of appropriate learning habits, concentration, teamwork, trust and goal setting.

  • Volleyball skill development
  • Volleyball game play
  • Skill analysis
  • Fitness development
  • Umpiring


Theory components include:

  • Defensive systems
  • Tendencies
  • Individual skill development
  • Issues analysis
  • SHINE - Sexual Health and relationships

ASSESSMENT

Students are assessed against the health and physical education australian curriculum achievement standards.

Practical

  • Practical assessment evaluated against the SIV skills continuum

Written evaluation

  • Theory topics cover individual skill analysis, team analysis evaluations and sport psychology assessments
  • Written assessment in line with the SHine curriculum

Additional Information

Cost: $160

All subject costs are subject to approval, are approximate and subject to change in 2025. 

It is a requirement for students who select Year 10 Special Interest Volleyball and Stage 1 Volleyball to participate in the following events and trainings:

  • Regular approved Volleyball competition (e.g. Friday Junior League)
  • Regular trainings out of school hours as determined by the program and coaching staff
  • South Australian Volleyball School Cup

It is optional to attend the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup (approximate cost $2500).

Students are expected to wear the Volleyball training uniform for all lessons.

Students are expected to abide to the Special Interest Volleyball Program’s Behaviour Agreement.
