12 Product and Architectural Design

Pre-Requisite: Year 11 Product Design and Engineering or Year 11 Built Environment and Architectural Design

SUBJECT OVERVIEW

An exciting, state of the art course, where students will use either Autodesk or Trimble Sketchup design software, used in Industry, to develop solutions to design problems. Students will develop skills and understanding in the use of CAD software while completing a design portfolio for a design of their choice (within a common theme). Students will be able to choose a course focus of Architectural or Product Design. 

Students will use Computer Aided Machinery (3D printers, laser cutter, CNC Router) to produce an article that they have designed in a Computer Aided Design software package, as well as produce industry standard technical drawings which will be printed and presented as part of their design folio.

ASSESSMENT

This subject includes three assessment types:

  • Specialised skills tasks – 20%
  • Design process and product – 50%
  • Resources study – 30%

Students are assessed against the design, technology and engineering SACE performance standards:

  • Investigation and analysis
  • Design, development and planning
  • Production
  • Evaluation
