SUBJECT OVERVIEW

The study of Japanese at year 12 builds upon prior learning of Japanese and continues to consolidate learning and develop student’s ability to communicate effectively in the target language. Students examine relationships between language, culture and identity, and reflect on the ways in which culture influences communication.

Knowledge and understanding of Australia’s and their own place in the world enables students to apply language skills in a more authentic manner. Students refine critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they independently create and comprehend written and spoken texts that become more challenging. Students have the opportunity to attend a school study tour of Japan in either years 10, 11 or 12 if they are studying Japanese.

Topics may include

  • the changing world
