12 Community Connections

SUBJECT OVERVIEW

Community Connections provides opportunities for success to students who have an interest in a particular SACE Stage 2 subject, but who choose to demonstrate their learning in alternate ways or through a personal connection with the subject area. Students will work within the SACE Stage 2 subject of interest however be enrolled in Community Connections and on successful completion will gain 20 Stage 2 Credits for SACE; this subject does not provide credits toward an ATAR.

Focus of Learning

Each student will show evidence of learning against some of the learning requirements described in a selected SACE Stage 2 subject, and will also demonstrate learning through a community application activity that is based on the selected subject. This allows the student to participate in the chosen subject learning experiences, whilst developing their own Community Connection linked to the subject. Students convert their subject of interest to a Community Connection program of learning within one of the following fields of study:

  • Humanities and Social Sciences Connections - 2HSC20
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Connections – 2STC20
  • Interdisciplinary Connections – 2IDC20
  • Practical Connections – 2PRC20

Students are eligible to undertake enrolment in all of the fields of study for SACE completion.

ASSESSMENT

Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types

School based assessment (70%)

  • Folio 50%
  • Reflection 20%

External Assessment (30%)

  • Community Application 30%

Additional Information

Before enrolling a student in Stage 2 Community Connections consider:

  • The student’s career path and need for an ATAR (Community Connections will not contribute to an ATAR)
  • The Community Connections field of study that best suits the student’s program of learning
