SACE Stage 1: 20 Credits / 2 Semesters / English

Pre-Requisite: Nil. Stage 1 English is compulsory. 

SUBJECT OVERVIEW

In English, students will respond to a wide range of text types and analyse the interrelationship between authors and their audience. They will create texts utilising the technical features of writing and understand how these support the communication of ideas. Students will develop a range of increasingly sophisticated written and oral language skills.

Students will analyse the connections between texts and identify intertextual features, and how these impact on the reader’s understanding.

  • Responding to texts
  • Creating texts
  • Intertextual study

ASSESSMENT

Students will be assessed against the SACE Stage 1 English performance standards. These include:

  • Knowledge and understanding
  • Analysis
  • Application

In each semester of English students will complete:

  • 1 text response
  • 2 text creation
  • 1 intertextual piece
  • 1 oral presentation

Additional Information

A full year of Stage 1 English is a compulsory component of the SACE and provides students with the 20 credits needed for the compulsory literacy requirement of SACE. English will also focus on preparing students for Stage 2 Essential English, English or English Literary Studies.
