11 Business Innovation

SUBJECT OVERVIEW

This subject supports students to develop an entrepreneurial mindset by cultivating critical, creative and innovative thinking. It is a perfect subject for students who are passionate about social change through social entrepreneurship, for students looking to start, grow or improve an existing business or idea, or for students undertaking VET Courses that may lead to future business opportunities.

Students identify and build on their passions and strengths, while developing their communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills to create a new venture start-up or improve on an existing business idea.

Key concepts in developing and growing an idea or brand will be explored through value propositions, the lean canvas model, budgeting, forecasting, creating a business model canvas and pitching.

Students with previous problem-solving or business experience will have the opportunity to build their capacity to turn ideas into reality.

Topics may include

  • finding and solving problems
  • financial awareness and decision making
  • business information and communication
  • local, global and digital connections

ASSESSMENT

Students are assessed against the SACE Performance Standards:

  • Assessment Type 1: Business skills (70%)
  • Assessment Type 2: Business pitch and evaluation (30%)
