SUBJECT OVERVIEW

Year 10 Outdoor Education is the introduction to the Outdoor Education pathway at Heathfield High School. The course covers all topics covered in SACE Outdoor Education at an introductory level. Students are given the opportunity to try a range of different outdoor experiences while learning the theory required to conduct these activities safely and effectively whilst having a minimal impact on the environment.


Topics may include

Practical components include:

  • Rock climbing (indoor and outdoor)
  • Bushwalking
  • Orienteering
  • Mountain bike riding
  • High ropes
  • Aquatics (surfing, snorkelling, windsurfing)
  • Camp (3 days)

Theory components include:

  • Group dynamics and leadership
  • Environmental study
  • Human impacts
  • Planning principles
  • Risk assessment
  • First aid
  • Navigation

ASSESSMENT

Students are assessed against the Health and Physical Education Australian Curriculum achievement standards.

Additional Information

Costs: A cost of $400 will cover the charges associated with cost of venue hire, transportation and instructors' fees.

Fees may change prior to January 2025 when invoices are sent.
