SUBJECT OVERVIEW

Student artists will refine their skills creating more complex artwork with challenging projects. Students will continue to develop in creating work of 2D skills including the use of and digital painting technologies to continue to evolve their arts practice. Students will study historical and contemporary artists analysing artworks and experimenting with the art techniques. Students will also be encouraged to engage in the work of these artists with application of these themes to form their own ideas and expand their creative ideas. Students will also contribute to art studio practice of reflection and evaluating of their own and others work, identifying areas of good arts practice and where improvements can be made.

Students can elect to do a full year of Visual Art by selecting Visual Art A and Visual Art B. 
This course can lead to Stage 1 Visual Art/ Design.

Topics may include

Drawing 101:

  • Observational drawing (proportion, measuring, perspective)

Colour theory techniques:

  • Blue Rider movement and Abstract Expressionism
  • Visual study
  • Portraiture, underpainting techniques
  • Clay sculpting portraiture
  • Hyper-realism
  • Reflection and evaluation
  • Arts specific language and analysis

ASSESSMENT

Students are assessed against the Visual Arts Australian Curriculum achievement standards:

  • Folio of development
  • Practical artwork/ products
  • Visual study: analysis of artists and art movements
  • Reflection and/or evaluation of others and own arts practice

Additional Information

Students will require:

  • USB storage device
  • A3 visual diary
  • students may need to purchase additional printing and/or internet credit
  • $10 excursion fee
