SUBJECT OVERVIEW
Year 9 Humanities Curriculum is based on the Australian Curriculum:
History
A study of the history of the making of the modern world from 1750 to 1918. Students investigate industrialisation and rapid change in the ways people lived, worked and thought. Students also look at nationalism, imperialism, and the colonisation of Australia. The period culminates in World War I, 1914–1918, the ‘war to end all wars’.
Topics may include:

Geography
‘Biomes and food security’ focuses on investigating the role of the biotic environment and its role in food and fibre production.
‘Geographies of interconnections’ focuses on investigating how people, through their choices and actions, are connected to places throughout the world in a wide variety of ways, and how these connections help to make and change places and their environments.

Economics and Business
Students examine the role of Australia’s financial sector and its effect on economic decision-making by individuals and businesses. They look at global markets and reasons for trade. Students look specifically at Australia’s pattern of trade with Asia.
Civics and Citizenship
Students analyse the role of the Australian Constitution, the federal system of government, and the process and reasons for constitutional change - looking at the key features of Australia’s court system. Students will also look at the reasons for individuals and groups participate in civic life both nationally and globally.
