Subject Overview
Students design and conduct biological investigations, manipulate apparatus, use numeracy skills and analyse and interpret observations. Students communicate their knowledge and understanding of concepts and interrelationships using biological terms and conventions.
Focus Of Learning
The topics in Stage 2 Biology provide the framework for developing integrated programs of learning through which students extend their skills, knowledge, and understanding of the three strands of science.
The three strands of science to be integrated throughout student learning are:
     science inquiry skills
     science as a human endeavour
     science understanding.
The topics for Stage 2 Biology are:
     Topic 1: DNA and Proteins
     Topic 2: Cells as the Basis of Life
     Topic 3: Homeostasis
     Topic 4: Evolution

School Assessment (70%)
     Assessment Type 1: Investigations Folio
     Assessment Type 2: Skills and Applications Tasks
External Assessment (30%)
     Assessment Type 3: Examination

Prerequisites
      An achievement level of ‘B’ or better in Stage 1 Physics 1 and 2, Stage 1 Chemistry 1 and 2, Stage 1 Biology A or Biology B, or Stage 1 Psychology is highly recommended.
