Year 12 Courses

Year 12 Courses

This page provides access to information about the courses offered at Heathfield High School. These courses show the pattern of subjects that you must choose at each year level.

SACE completion leading to a University PathwayThis course is suitable for students who wish to complete SACE and obtain an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) for University entrance. When choosing this course it is imperative that students ensure that they meet the prerequisite and assumed knowledge requirements for the course or courses for which they will be applying.(these can be checked in the SATAC guide)
SACE completion leading to a Vocational PathwayThis course is suitable for students who wish to complete SACE and enter a Vocational Pathway that does not require an ATAR, or lead to a Tertiary Institution where an ATAR is a condition of entry.
Students must:
  • complete all the compulsory SACE subjects at SACE Stage 1 with a C grade or better and SACE Stage 2 with a C- grade or better.
  • complete 3 SACE Stage 2 subjects with a C- grade or better
         or
successfully complete competencies within a VET course or courses which will provide 60 SACE credits at SACE Stage 2 (refer to the SACE VET Recognition Register)
         or
successfully complete 60 SACE Stage 2 credits through a combination of SACE Stage 2 subjects plus competencies within a VET course or courses which will provide SACE credits at SACE Stage 2 (refer to the SACE VET Recognition Register)
  • undertake other SACE Stage 2 subjects or SACE Stage 1 subjects or VET courses that count at either SACE Stage 1 or SACE Stage 2 to ensure the total number of SACE credits totals 200.
Australian School Based ApprenticeshipStudents who are currently enrolled in an Australian School Based Apprenticeship (ASBA) are not required to select subjects at this stage nor attend the subject selection day. ASBA students will be contacted to arrange an interview time with parents, the Apprenticeship Broker and a Student Pathways representative.

Notes

  • SACE Stage 2 English As A Second Language and SACE Stage 2 English As A Second Language Studies should only be chosen by students who speak English as a second language or as an additional language, and whose knowledge of English is restricted.
  • Students in Year 12 can also choose from an extensive range of Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses. Further information about VET courses is available in the subject listings. Students can select two 1 semester VET courses or one 2 semester VET course. Students who wish to undertake a VET course will still select 8 semesters of study from the subjects listed on this page. After their VET enrolment has been processed and any applicable fees have been paid, the VET course will be substituted for their lowest preference choice subjects. Please note that VET courses will only proceed if there is sufficient student interest.
  • Whilst every effort is made to place students in the subjects of their first choice, some combinations may not be possible due to a number of factors. These include the number of students choosing particular subjects, and timetable and staffing constraints. If it is not possible for a student to do all of their first-choice subjects, they will be contacted by a School Counsellor or Subject Selection Adviser to discuss an alternative subject selection.
